  • Hold the Like Button, Send a Dollar: X Money Tips Are Coming to X

The Like button on X is about to be worth money. Elon Musk announced on Sunday, October 25, 2026, that X is adding a way to send money with a single gesture: press and hold the Like button on a post, and one dollar goes to its author through X Money. “We’re adding long press on like to send someone $1 via X Money,” Musk wrote in a post on the platform.

The idea folds a payment into the action X users already perform most often. Instead of opening a separate payment screen, entering card details or switching to another app, a small tip would travel inside the interaction itself. For creators, that matters: a reader who might never bother with a separate tipping page could reward a useful post, a helpful thread or a piece of reporting in the moment they appreciate it, without leaving the feed.

The announcement builds on X Money, the platform’s payments service, which is still in its early rollout. X Money launched in the United States on July 27, 2026, and lets users send and receive money through their X accounts. Reporting at launch described a service developed in partnership with Visa, using banking services from Cross River Bank, with an X-branded Visa debit card that can be used at ATMs and stores. Access began as an invite-only product for eligible users in the United States, and later reporting describes deposit accounts, peer-to-peer transfers and a debit card that can be added to Apple Pay.

For Musk, the tip is another step toward his long-stated goal of turning X into an “everything app” — one place for posting, messaging, banking and shopping. Payments have been central to that vision since he bought the platform, and X Money is the vehicle for it. Small payments have long been awkward on social platforms: an amount like one dollar is too small for card fees to make much sense, and too fiddly for most readers to be worth the effort. A one-gesture tip is meant to remove both problems at once.

Plenty of practical questions are still unanswered, and they matter. Musk gave no launch date and no further details in his announcement. It is not yet clear which users will get the feature first, whether it will work outside the United States, whether sending a tip will carry a fee, or whether the one-dollar amount can be changed. Reporting on the announcement also notes that Musk said nothing about confirmations, refunds or limits — and a gesture that moves money raises the stakes of an accidental press, so users will want to know whether a long press asks before sending, and what happens if a tip goes to the wrong account.

Availability is equally open. X Money’s rollout has so far focused on the United States, and Musk has not said when the tipping feature, or the wider payments service, will reach other countries. For now, the feature is a promise, not a product readers can use today. But as a statement of intent it is clear: on X, liking a post may soon mean more than approval — it may mean paying its author a dollar.
