  • Bookmarks on X: Save Posts Privately and Organize Them with Folders

Everyone has done it: liked a post just to find it again later, then cringed, because a like is a public endorsement. Bookmarks are the better tool for the job. Saving a post to your bookmarks files it away in a private collection that only you can see — no announcement, no notification, no trace on your profile.

Bookmarks are genuinely private

X's own help pages are clear on this: bookmarks are private and viewable only to you inside your account. The author of a post you save is not notified. If the author has analytics access, they may see that their post's total bookmark count went up by one — a number with no names attached. Nobody can see who saved a post, and there is no setting, tier, or third-party tool that changes that. If a website or extension claims it can reveal who bookmarked a post, it is a scam.

That privacy cuts both ways. Your bookmarks are a safe place to keep posts you want to study, argue with later, or read when you have time — including posts from accounts you would never publicly engage with.

Saving and finding posts

To save a post, tap the bookmark icon beneath it (on some versions of the app it sits inside the share menu). To browse what you have saved, open your profile menu and choose Bookmarks; on desktop it is in the left-hand sidebar. On newer iOS builds, bookmarks live under the History tab. Your saves appear newest first, and they sync across every device where you are signed in. The bookmarks page has a search bar on web and iOS, so a keyword from the post will usually dig it back up.

Removing a save is just as quiet: tap the bookmark icon again and the post leaves your collection.

Folders: the Premium upgrade

A single scrolling list is fine for a dozen saves and miserable for six hundred. That is what bookmark folders fix. Sorting saves into named folders — by topic, project, client, or anything else — is a feature of X Premium, included from the Basic tier upward. With folders, saving a post lets you file it straight into the right collection, and your archive becomes a reference library instead of a junk drawer.

One caution for subscribers: the folders ride on your subscription. If Premium lapses, your saved posts all stay in the main All Bookmarks view, but the folder organization stops being available until you resubscribe. If you are thinking of cancelling, export or note down your folder structure first.

Build a bookmark habit

The power move is treating bookmarks as your private research desk. Save great hooks and thread structures to steal ideas from, save tutorials you genuinely mean to follow, save receipts for arguments you know are coming. Pair bookmarks with a folder system and fifteen minutes of weekly review, and the posts you save stop being a graveyard of good intentions and start being one of the most useful corners of your X account.
