Basketball fans who live on X are getting a dedicated home for the new season. The NBA announced on Monday, October 19, that it is launching a new NBA Gametime experience inside X for the 2026-27 season, alongside a wider rollout of its Tap to Watch links, which point fans from a post straight to the live broadcast of a game.
The Gametime experience is built for people who follow the league on X. According to NBA senior vice president Bob Carney, fans who follow the NBA, its teams, or its players, or who simply show interest in the league, will see a permanent placement for the NBA experience on their home screen. Carney said the experience is baked into X and does not look like the regular app: fans get scores and highlights in one place, and stay one click away from watching the live game itself.
That one click is Tap to Watch, and it is expanding sharply this season. The league says Tap to Watch drove 30 million fans to live games last season, and that 90 percent of NBA app users called it incredibly helpful. This year it becomes available to fans internationally, uses geolocation to send each fan to the correct broadcast destination for their market, including the right local rights holder, and will appear across roughly 100 access points. Fans can also add the full NBA schedule to their personal calendars, with every game linked to its broadcast, and receive a notification at tip-off for a favorite team or player that taps straight into the game.
The timing is deliberate. The 2026-27 season is the second year of the NBA's 11-year media deal, which split national games among ESPN, NBC, and Amazon, on top of Peacock, Prime Video, League Pass, and local team streams. With games scattered across more services than ever, the league's stated goal is simple: take the guesswork out of finding a game, wherever a fan happens to be scrolling. The same push includes a formal program of 500 content creators, whose posts will also carry Tap to Watch links.
For X, NBA Gametime extends a sports strategy that has been building all autumn. NFL Gametime launched in August and added official NFL data this month, and MLB joined the hub for the baseball postseason, with the NBA named at the time as coming soon. That promise has now landed. Fans will still need the right subscription once they tap through, but starting this week, the distance between arguing about a game on X and actually watching it is supposed to be a single tap.
