Football fans who follow games on X now have official numbers behind the conversation. Genius Sports announced on October 15 that it has partnered with X to connect NFL Gametime on X with the NFL's official data, giving fans real-time scores, statistics and insights as games unfold during the 2026 season.
NFL Gametime on X is a dedicated feed that sits alongside the familiar For You and Following tabs. Instead of scattering the game across a fast-moving timeline, it brings live scores, clips, insights, news and creator commentary together in one place, so fans can follow a game and the reaction to it without leaving the app.
The data itself comes from a central source. Genius Sports is the exclusive distributor of the NFL's real-time, official play-by-play statistics and the league's Next Gen Stats data. In practice, that means the scores and play-by-play information in the feed arrive in real time, with trusted player, team and game insights placed alongside the clips and posts fans are already watching and sharing.
That pairing matters because game day on X has always been a second-screen experience. Fans post through big plays, argue about calls and share highlights while the game is still in progress. Adding official data to that same feed closes the gap between checking a score elsewhere and joining the conversation here. The play, the numbers behind it and the response to it now live side by side.
There is a business side to the deal as well. Monique Pintarelli, X's head of global advertising, described NFL Gametime as the place where the game and the conversation meet, and said official real-time data gives brands a live environment around the biggest moments in sports. Genius Sports chief executive Mark Locke said the company's technology is central to the NFL ecosystem and that powering the feed extends its reach to the millions of fans who follow every down on X.
The partnership builds on two longer relationships. X and the NFL have worked together for more than a decade, dating back to the platform's time as Twitter, when it streamed Thursday Night Football games in 2016; X still holds highlight rights. Genius Sports and the NFL, meanwhile, have partnered since 2021 on expanding how official league data shapes the football experience across media, broadcast and advertising.
For fans, the takeaway is simple. During live games, look for the Gametime feed next to For You and Following, and expect the scores, play-by-play and advanced stats there to carry the league's official stamp. The conversation on X has never lacked speed or volume. Now the numbers running underneath it come straight from the source.
